Open Projects

An Open Project refers to some end result that will be published under an open license, free for everyone to re-distribute, re-use or publish. Typically, the Creative Commons (attribute) license is the license used for Open Projects. Open Projects are defined as projects created using free/open source software that do not claim income from licensing or royalty. In this way, each project is financed in advance through project contributions, subsidies, revenue from training workshops, and corporate sponsoring.

Open Projects have the following requirements:

  1. Projects must be completed in 6-12 months.

  2. The Blender Institute executes projects as an independent production company.

  3. Project team members are usually only involved temporarily and hired as freelance artists with paid housing and travel.

  4. The Blender Institute enables the teams to execute their creative ideas.

  5. Projects have a Blender development target as well as a creative target.

  6. Secondary targets can be kept open for sponsors or partners.

  7. Cooperation projects with other open source projects are allowed.
