The basic goal of
my project is that I have to create a web-based virtual travel planner for walkers.
I will
be picking a walking route starting at the city of Green Bay and ending in Memphis.
As you progress on
this pre-defined route, you can see how the distance you have walked around
your hometown relates
to this virtual trip. There
are some general requirements that must be included in my project which are:

The Plan
First
off, I am taking an actual picture (As seen on Google Earth) and planning a
route from Green Bay,
Wisconsin, to Memphis, Tennessee. Along this route, I will pick out specific
tourist spots and rest
stops. Once this route is completely planned out, I will bring the picture into
Flash and start designing
the actual Trip Tracker.
Since I have no
experience with Flash, this could take a little experimenting. However, as I
play with the
software and learn more about it, I can continue to get more in depth with the
design. In the final program,
the user will be able to input the amount of steps he/she has taken and the
Trip Tracker will display
how far they have traveled on this trip to Tennessee. The user can look at information
along the route
in tourist spots picked by me. When at these stops, the user will be able to
view both static, and dynamic
information about each area. The Trip Tracker will then save the user's steps,
so the next time they use
the program, they can see how they have progressed on their trip.
Timeline
Week 1 - 3: Insall flash and get comfortable with the program. Get
a basic layout complete and some
basic animation.
Week 4:
Work on allowing some "zooming" of the map by using close-ups of different
areas on the map.
Also, when the map is zoomed, provide some points where more information will
be displayed on specific
stops.
Week 5:
Provide more detailed information on the stops which will include images, a
description, and
places to stay. I will also try to include more dynamic information such as
weather and surrounding
attractions.
Week 6:
Allow user to enter his/her name and the steps taken. Also, finish adding more
information
boxes in other tourist spots along the route.
Week 7:
Finish and de-bug the previous weeks work. Prepare for the final major step
of the project
which includes making a conversion for the steps entered into miles and displaying
how far the user
has traveled on the map.
Week 8:
This week we are doing walkthroughs of our project, so I will have a working
trip tracker with
all the above specifications from previous weeks.
Final Weeks: Get the program to draw the steps taken on the map. Also allow
the user to save their
name and steps taken and then load them back into the program at a later time.
