Text Recognition

Project Description: Write an optical character recognition application that identifies and recognizes printed text within an image

General Requirements:

1. Investigate existing algorithms and libraries. Use the Carleton College Computer Science Comps Project 2010 as a starting point.
2. Initially, try black text on a white background.
3. Design a uniform API so that you can plug in alternative OCR functions.
4. Evaluate the effectiveness of your OCR compared to existing algorithms.
5. Develop an application that employs augmented reality for text within an image (e.g geo-tag state park signs, license plates, campus building signs, ..)

 

Project Timetable:

2/5-2/11	Use basic interface to test some basic algorithm
2/12-2/18	Try two other algorithms
2/19-3/3	Base on the existed algorithms, thinking/designing some an optimized algorithm
3/4- 3/10	Build the final user inteface
3/11-3/27	Take a break
3/18-3/31	Finish coding and Debugging
4/1-4/7	Documents and Prepare the presentation
4/8-4/13	Prepare the presentation
4/14-4/20	Prepare the Defense and Finish up
4/20- The End	Finish up everything
