CSCI 460: Capstone Experience Project Definition 2014 DC Pankratz Visualizing Text Project Developer: David Ferris Survey questions that use “multiple choice” formats can usually be easily processed and organized electronically. However, surveys with open-ended questions and comment fields are often difficult to organize and analyze. A large number of surveys like the SNC SOOTS, opinion polls, and online reviews add to the complexity. It may be helpful to have a way of representing a large collection of text using simple visual attributes. Project Description: Develop an application that represents complex data sets in visual and understandable ways. General Requirements: 1. The idea is to represent a large data set using simple visual attributes. 2. You might obtain ideas from companies like Infographics.com http://www.infographics.com/portfolio.php?item=CNNVID-intervid 3. Use visual attributes to describe data features (size, color, position..) 4. The application should be general enough to easily handle more than one set of data. 5. Large survey sets can give complex data sets to test. 6. The data should be viewed from more than one prospective. 7. Clicking on a visual gives more depth and/or another prospective of the information. 8. Mike Klosiewski’s 2013 project could be of some help.
