Computer science and the different areas associated with this field were very much unknown to me before I began my college career. I had no idea what I wanted to study at St. Norbert College and after reviewing all majors decided on computer science, merely because I was fascinated with technology. Since that time, I have been exposed to the many different components of the major and have found the area of study to be a true passion of mine. The opportunity to solve a problem in a way that can be useful for others keeps me engaged when working on projects and learning about the subject. Knowing that there are many different ways of solving the same problem and probably a more efficient way than the one I had just thought of is quite remarkable and keeps me on my toes. When working on a project, there definitely have been times of frustration and the feeling that the task is just too daunting. However, the project always seems to be completed and the feeling of accomplishment is a huge reward in regard to the effort put in.
In addition to being able to solve real-world problems, computer scientists are never done learning. Once one concept or technology has been learned, there will always be something new waiting to be discovered. The field is always changing and that has kept me fascinated with computer science. There truly is never a dull moment. I enjoy knowing that what I start out doing upon graduation will more than likely be much different to what I will be doing five or ten years later. The field is constantly evolving and is being used more and more in today’s society. After my time at St. Norbert College, I know with absolute certainty that I chose the right major to study and computer science has been and will continue to be a fulfilling part of my life.
