With my walkthrough this week, I've done a lot of thinking about my project and finished my mock up for what I think that it should look like. It's nothing pretty (as most of my C# projects have been), but so far it visually represents everything that I think I'll need to have. I still need to find something to work with pitch modification and I'm a bit worried and hope that I can gain some insight on how to proceed from my walkthrough on Thursday. The real problem is finding some software or plugin that will work well with what I'm trying to do, but as I've been looking for something like that for the past month, the probability of that seems very bleak and I'm not sure how to proceed. I'll probably have to meet with Dr. Pankratz to see what I should do.
Once again classes proved to be a bit time consuming this week and I didn't get much done in my project other than conceptually thinking about it. I have made some decisions on how I think that the project should work in the end and that seems to be building well in my mind, but I still don't really have any code. As walkthroughs are coming up next week, I think I really need to get a firm plan of attack for the next few weeks as well as maybe create a Mock-up of what my project will look like in C#. Currently there's nothing really great that I've found for pitch modification in C#... all I have found are things that are stand-alone pitch modification software, or things that modify full tracks of audio without the ability to isolate sections of it.
Regrettably, I haven't really done much on the project this week. Mock trial was this weekend, so the majority of my week leading up to it was preparation for the competition. We didn't do amazing at the competition either, but I do now have some catch up work to do concerning my capstone as I have effectively taken a week off to work and compete in Mock Trial.
After meeting with Dr. Pankratz on Thursday to talk over what actions I can make with my project, he said to first attempt to make a music player. This would be so that I could play and pause and stop a track from playing while having a visual representation of the song playing, even allowing for a tracker to show how far along within the song it could be. I've been doing some looking around for libraries and plug ins for C# to work for this, but no luck to far. I have an idea of what it would look like so far though, but the idea of having something to work towards is good and comforting.
As Dr. Pankratz instructed me I've been doing a lot of work on the research to how a phase vocoder works. I'm trying to find how to use one in code, but so far it just explains how one works and what it does. I'm still struggling to figure out how this whole thing will work together and what my approach will be, but having done some research is comforting as I hope it will lend to completing the process.
I can not believe that I’m finally in my last year, working on my capstone project. This past week has been extremely busy, with getting back into the swing of classes, but I tried my best to devote some time into working on research for my capstone. I won’t say that I have a firm grasp on exactly how to do anything on the technical side of things, but after research on the phase vocorder and the Songify app specifically I feel that I have at least a decent start to begin working on my project. My biggest challenge I feel will not be the actual coding, but making sure that I stay on task and am constantly thinking about this project. I’m hoping to schedule weekly meetings and progress reports so that my peers and instructors can keep my on schedule and working hard to make a great final product. Other than that here is a brief outline of what my project will hopefully look like at the end of this process: I will be able to record voices and morph them with autotune like technology that will work with raising and lowering the pitch of the voice which will then in turn mold the voice to fit a lyricless audio track that I will also provide. I still have some questions regarding certain aspects of the project in comparison to the Songify app which I’m modeling after seeing that I have some extra goals that the Songify app does not support. Here’s hoping to a good experience with my capstone project!
