Our Project

Our project started with code in PBASIC used for a senior project by John Moss. His project was to use an ultrasound sensor and the Boe-Bot to avoid objects while roaming around a room. Read more about his project here >


Using John Moss' code as our base we decided to incorporate our new design into what he already started. The original functions of the robat was to avoid everything in its path. Our idea was to make this robot follow a moving object around the room.

We first experimented with photo and bump sensors in order to make him perform his tasks more efficiently. After some tests we decided it would be more effective if the robot used the ultrasound sensor to follow a target. We came to a conclusion that the infrared sensors that John had implemented were not very consistent in their tasks. Instead, we altered the code to make the ultrasound sensor more effective for our purpose.

After hours of experimenting and a few AA batteries later we were able to create a robot that would follow us around the room and even through a door way.

Here is an example of Boe-Bot, who we dubbed M-O, following us down the hall way and through a door:
