Upon graduation in May, I plan to obtain a position that will allow me to exercise my software design and development skills along with my communications, organizational, and people skills. I am seeking a company that can offer me the possibility of ‘moving up’ to a project lead position in the near future which will allow me to perform some management and design while remaining close to the low-level implementation and fine details. A position such as this will likely require me to be at a fairly small company.
Within 2-5 years, I would like to begin a graduate program with the intention of obtaining my masters degree in Computer Science / Software Development. I hope that I will be able to use my graduate education to learn more about a specific area of computer science, which is yet to be determined. I think this will also provide me with an opportunity to combine my real-world experience with the theory and concepts that I have learned as an undergraduate student.
Although my long-term career plan is less specific than my short-term plan, I do know that I will always want to be on the cutting edge of technology, working with new technologies as they evolve. I think my communications and leadership skills can be used to my advantage in my career, and I would like to have some management or administration involved in my work, but I do not ever want to lose touch with the low-level design or the direct implementation of whatever it is that I am working on.
