Philosophy Statement:

As a student I believe that learning never ends, as a computer scientist I believe that walls are not the end of the road but an obstacle that would make me value the other side of the wall more once I climb it and get to the other side; creativity, persistence and self-confidence can make the  impossible doable. As a person I will use my technical knowledge as well as all the experience acquired either through education or work experience to make a better world for myself and the  people around me in the best way possible.

About Me

Joel Hiram Rodriguez Rivas

Imagination, creativity and adventure, are words that as a child were always in my mind and have shaped my life ever since. These three words have been the base of many achievements in my life. The feeling of adventure was there when I took the challenge of leaving a life behind and take the decision to come to the US. At first I felt like a fish out of water since I did not know how to speak English and I did not have an idea of how the culture was, but thanks to that, now I speak English fluently and I got to meet many people from many other cultures. Imagination and creativity took me in to the music field, which I still enjoy until the moment.

These three words have been with me as a computer scientist as well. For me computer science is a style of life in which I get to experience everything I like doing. Imagination and creativity together are a strong base for the development of new programming projects and the structuration of such. Adventure comes when learning a new programming languages and new technologies as well as programming techniques. All that mixed with the fact that our tools are always changing and as computer scientist we always have to keep learning, it makes being a computer scientist a challenging and over all interesting lifelong adventure.
