A phone application that is useful for seniors to make and receive phone calls by using a device that does not require significant dexterity or computer skills.
Scope and Analysis
Design a HCI for senior citizens.
Research design techniques catered toward senior citizens to make the app as easy to use as possible.
Test the actual app with someone who is a senior citizen.
Provide admin functions for adding, deleting, and editing phone numbers.
This will coincide with the HCI catered toward seniors.
The design will include large fonts and buttons that are easily visible and big enough to leave room for error.
Allow pictures to be associated with a number.
My idea for this is to have a user of the app upload their own picture that will be persisted to a user receiving a call.
Provide simple volume controls and means to activate the application.
Volume controls can be used on the physical phone itself as well as in the app "settings" tab, and during a call.
Provide visual identification for outgoing and incoming calls.
My idea for this is to use the image uploaded by the user to pop up on the screen with an "incoming call" text.
Synchronize the app with an actual phone to manipulate it-calling, hanging up, volume, etc.
All code to make this happen will be completed in visual studio using extensions to emulate an android phone.
Physical testing on a real device will also be implemented when phone calls are being tested.
Record data regarding time and frequency of use.
Record the amount of time spent on the app as well as in a call.
Have the app send/receive phone calls.
I have two ideas for this. The first being use the voice application on the phone itself, or figure out a way to have two people communicate from app to app using voice over IP (voip).
