Animation is...
- the process by which we see still pictures move.
- the condition of living or the state of being alive.
- a type of optical illusion, displaying still images one after another.
Animation is used in...
- Films and movies (favorite use!)
- Video Games
- Architecture (used in building and designing houses)
- Arts
- Sciences
- everyday life (your eyes play tricks on you!)
Animation is very time-consuming and cost effective.
Here are a few examples...
Spiderman 3: $300 million (most expensive)
The Polar Express: $170 million
Transformers: $150 million
Toy Story: $90 million
Shrek: $70 million
- Movie companies (Disney, Pixar)
- Cartoons
- Automobile companies (to design 3-D models of cars)
- Pilots to practice flying in dangerous situations
How does Animation Work?
- Our eyes are tricked by seeing movement (Persistence of Vision Theory)
- Our brains hold onto an image for a fraction of a second after the image has
passed.
- If our eye sees a series of still images very quickly, the image appears to
move because our eyes cannot cope with fast-moving images.
