Philosophy Statement & Career Path Plan
Philosophy Statement There is more to computing than just the technical foundation it is based on. The development of an interface has had a prominent impact in making technology very commonplace in today's society. My initial interest in computing stemmed from my interest of what goes on behind that interface and it has extended much further. My experience in computer science and graphic design give me a unique perspective within the computing profession. I have the ability to form ideas and critique visually from an artist's viewpoint. In addition to the technical aspects, I look at a program aesthetically. I not only write the code but I design an interface; to a user, my program becomes an experience. My broad interests and different perspective towards computing has directed me towards Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). In this discipline, I will be able to challenge my personal need to learn and investigate within the evolving and dynamic field of computing. Career Path Plan I have gained a solid foundation of computer science and graphic design at St. Norbert College; however, I strive for culmination in which the two disciplines will be integrated. Graduate study in HCI offers me the ability to bridge this gap and to expand upon other concepts as well. This knowledge will enable me to explore many HCI career paths that I find intriguing. These include: the ability to design interfaces, become a usability analyst, software application tester, or information system consultant.
