Finishing Up...

So when it came down to it I created a Google Map that used Google's API that is free to use. I was able to put POIs on this that represent the trees and then invoke a notification bubble to show more information. This interface then transferred very easily to the mobile platform because Android can use the Google Maps API as well. All of this information was available on Google Developer. Once I had the application complete I proceeded to upload it to the Android market to make it public to everyone in the US. Here is the posting link

Catching WAY Up...

According to this, I have not done anything in nearly two months! Well, we all know that is not the case, I just have not been good at keeping this website up-to-date. After spending many, many hours in the past day working on this project and trying to just grasp the whole entity I realized that it is much simpler than I was trying to make it. I am not going to go into grave detail as to how this came to be, so from here on out its easy sailing.

I know again I am not being the most descriptive with these, but here goes trying to back into the swing of things. I was finally able to get a website mocked up so that I can see if it meets the objectives that the requesting professor has. Now I have a meeting scheduled with him to see how the design is coming. I am also getting in contact with another professor in the geology department that could potentially have some students collect tree data for me. This is major progress so that I will have some test data when I am designing the framework.

As for the Android app, for now the concentration is on the website and getting those requirements meet. The progress that I have made on the app is getting to know the Android programming environment and discovering all of the included functions. I started the coding of the actual app, but it is not a state where there is anything visual. I am working on the process for the app to get the data off the web for any updates. Once I have that set then porting the web, mapping function will be easy to the Android because the web map is Google powered and so is Android.

You can now tune in more regularly to see the progress on my project as this should be updated daily from now on out. I look forward to getting some good results to show you all.

Welcome to My Project

As I get a start to this website and my project I am beginning to realize what I am undertaking. I am building upon a basic framework for the Android app, but the web interface is something that will be completely new. I am excited for this project as I have been an avid Android user for the past 6 months and am thoroughly enjoying the platform. I will keep you updated with my progress and challenges along the way.
