SNC Arboretum
The arboretum on the St. Norbert Campus has been around for longer than all of us that are currently here, but it has been left by the wayside. The last time that mapping work was done on this was in the 1950s. Needless to say that is extremely outdated with new buildings on campus and is literally falling apart. The new arboretum tour will take us into the new century with a virtual tour that can be accessed from an Android device or from the web. This is going to give us a long lasting and stable interface that can be easily updated into the future. We will now regain access to the arboretum around us and give visitors something to explore.
Firstly I will be addressing the Android Tour app that was created last year. That made headway into how to access the features on the device like the GPS data, which will prove helpful to me as I make the second version. I will be making the navigation option more detailed and try to make it more accurate. I will then try and get as much data about the trees as possible to enter as data in the tour. This is the part that will be ongoing with the biology department. Once I have this in place I will work out the navigation, find me, and what’s around features.
After getting through the mobile app I will be porting this to a web interface. I have not decided how I will be doing this yet, as there are a few options that I am looking into. The main objective will be to keep the two interfaces looking as similar as possible, so users can easily switch to the mobile interface when they visit campus.
