About MeMy name is John McGorey, and I am studying Computer Science at St. Norbert College in De Pere, WI. This project is the culmination of everything I have learned during my time studying here, and what a journey it has been. Along the way, I have faced a great many challenges and met just as many, if not more, amazing people. I would not trade this experience for the world.
Outside of school, I work as a software development intern at Nicolet National Bank. In my free time, I like to try out new baking recipes, play card games (mostly sheepshead), and go hiking with friends. If you have any questions for me, or any recommendations about what I like to do, drop me a line at one of the social media icons below! Have a great day! |
Computer Science Philosophy
Computer Science is important to me because it allows me to help others. While the work involved is itself challenging and rewarding, being able to use my skills to create something new for others to use is the most rewarding aspect of Computer Science for me. Every day, I use applications and tools that others have built to enhance my life. I am excited to get the opportunity to pay it forward and to provide the world with creations of my own.
While I am excited to bring these creations into the world, I know that I must be responsible in my implementations, as being a computer scientist puts you in several unique situations. You must consider everyone who will be using your creation and make sure that it is accessible to all. You must protect the data of your users, and you must be honest with them about what your creation does. At all times, you must respect the rights of your users. If you do not, then what integrity do you have?
In the world of software, you are responsible for all your choices. While I know I will not make the right choice every time, I strive to take ownership from and learn from my mistakes to do better in the future. Computer scientists are humans designing software for humans, so if we are considerate of others when making our creations, we can get through this world together, one program at a time.
