Wow time flies when you are having fun. It does not feel like all that long ago that I was a freshmen taking my first computer science class in college. When I started college I did not know if I was going to stick with computer science. I had taken programming classes in high school but often struggled to build programs that worked correctly. My first college level computer science class changed that: everything clicked and I fell in love with computer science.
My first non-academic opportunity involving software development was at West Bend Mutual Insurance. Here I worked to build cloud based database solutions. It was here where I discovered how incredibly gratifying building software can be.
As I returned to school after my summer internship I took over an automation testing project at St. Norbert College's Enterprise Application team. This job has taught me to think outside of the box. When I took over the project, it was a custom C#/Selenium suite. It was determined by the CIO that the custom suite was not stable enough or mature enough to meet St. Norbert's needs. As a result I was tasked with rebuilding all the automation test scripts in Katalon Studio. The new Katalon Studio suite that I pioneered has since completely replaced the old C#/Selenium suite and is still growing as needs arise.
My future plans include a summer internship at Thrivent Financial in Appleton, WI developing software. In the fall I will be returning to St. Norbert to complete my Mathematics major. With a December expected graduation, I look forward to beginning a career in software development.
