Philosophy

As a senior, I am able to look back at the past 4 years and reflect on everything I have accomplished at St. Norbert College.  As always, there are experiences you wish you could do over or change and experiences that you could not have imaged not experiencing.  No matter what type of experience you are looking at, they are experiences that change your life.  You learn from every mistake, every failure, and every success.  The computer science courses have thrown many curve balls at me; whether a success or a failure.  Therefore, with every failure I told myself that my career in computer science was over, but every semester I used those life changing experiences to continue and loved everything I was learning even more.

During my journey, I realized what I truly loved about computer science.

·         First, solving problems.  I have found that there is never one right answer, there may be an easier answer, but multiple ways to get to that answer.

·         Second, the ongoing projects. From experience, I have found that you never truly are finished with a project, program, or system.  There are always new improvements and modifications you can make.

·          Third, the final product.  As a computer scientist you are able to see the final result and feel happiness by helping someone and seeing them use and be more efficient with what you created.

·         Fourth, team work.  You become a team with your co-workers or classmates to complete a task.  Working together is important in order to succeed at a given task.

·         Finally, the lifelong learning involved in computer science.  You are never finished learning.  Computer science consists of new languages and new ideas that arise year after year.  Therefore, you are always researching new ways to accomplish a task.

I have realized that in order to succeed in the computer science major you need certain qualities as an individual.  Although there are many more, here are a few character qualities that come to mind: motivated, determined, helpful, patient, efficient, confident and most important diligent.   These qualities that I have gained will help me succeed in my future.

Career Path

In May 2010, I will be accepting a job in Green Bay where I will be a Software Developer.  I will maintain and create applications for the business and also work with business users.  This job will utilize my business skills through systems analysis and design, my communication skills through workign with business users, and my computer skills through maintaining and developing programs for the business.

After approximately two years of experience, I plan to go to school for my masters degree in business administration focus on leadership.
