This week, I was sick with the flu. I was unable to make progress, so I don’t have much of an update. Being effectively comatose for five days greatly limits one’s capacity to program. I was, however, to make some progress today. I fixed my buggy code and now have a working bit-changing prototype, though it currently only changes one color. Here’s a screenshot of its output:

Basically, what occurs here is that the four least-significant bits get replaced with the color’s most significant bits. See how on the changed line in the RGB in Binary table has the first four numbers repeating a second time? This shows it works! Additionally, we can see that the decimal representation of each color has changed in RGB as Integers. It’s a subtle change, but the numbers don’t lie even if our eyes cannot perceive the difference in the original and changed output of the colors.
However, there’s an unfortunate bug seen in Green’s output. It should have 1101 in the last four bit spots in changed, but this isn’t the case. It’s an annoying bug, and I’m unsure of its cause at this time. It’ll take some time to debug, and I hope I can accomplish this by the end of today so I can implement the two color version tomorrow.
One thing I need to do yet is my Gantt or PERT chart. I figured the title of this blog post had a bit of a double meaning, considering how a PERT chart represents the progress and journey one must make to stay on schedule. Just as the pioneers on the Oregon Trail had to hurry to make it to Oregon before winter, so too must I hurry to finish my project before the end of the semester.
Anyway, next week will be a difficult and intense one. I will need to play catch-up in all my classes, and I know I’ll still be worn and weary from this week’s illness. I hope I can find time to recover and take small breaks as needed, because I have the tendency to go 110% of my capacity and pay for it over the weekend. I suppose I’ll find out one way or another–I hope I can keep a steady, consistent pace.
